2007/8 men's east v west
The men's annual East v West fixture was held in the Kirkwall Legion on Friday 30th November.
In the 'A' match the West started well, with Chris Seator and John Norquoy winning the first 2 singles. The East fought back well, however, and held a slim 7-5 lead after the 12 singles (the other 3 West players to win their singles were Paul Foubister, Francis Ballantyne and Lennie Clouston). Unfortunately for the West it was all downhill from there with the East winning the first 4 doubles and making the final score 11-5. Congratulations to them.
Like the 'A' match, the 'B' match was very close at the start, tied at 2-2 after the doubles (the 'B' teams play the doubles first). The finish was similar too, with the East proving a bit too strong and running out 8-4 winners in the end. Well done to the East 'B'.
The matches were played in a good spirit and a good night was had by all (as far as I can remember!) After letting them win the last few matches we look forward to welcoming our eastern friends to the west for next year's fixture where they can expect to receive a sound thrashing.
