2007/8 men's singles

There was a good entry of 27 players for the 2008 men's singles, held in the Stromness Legion on Friday 14th March.

Matches were close right from the off, 3-2 being a very common scoreline. Playing on their home patch, the league winning Legion players would have fancied their chances, but surprisingly none of them got past the quarter-final stage. The first semi-final saw Paul Foubister from the Merkister beat Alec Stanger from the Smithfield, while in the other Juicy Johnston from the Smithfield overcame the challenge of Noust 1 player Ian Findlay.

Juicy raced to a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven final, showing some of the clinical finishing that had been a feature of his play en route to the final. Unfortunately for him, his form dipped from then on and great play from Paul won him the next four legs and the trophy, which, by the way, he also won in 2006. Paul was acknowledged by all in attendance to be a deserving winner, having produced excellent darts all evening, and it seemed only right that the 180 and high finish table leader should take the title.

There were 180s from Paul Foubister and Juicy Johnston, a 101 finish from Dennis Watt, and a 100 checkout from John Munson,
